The Unstoppable Power of “UNTIL”

How long should you keep trying?

Assuming you are endeavoring to do something that is just and right, and not in contradiction to the revealed will of God, then you keep trying UNTIL...

Jesus tells a parable about a man with 100 sheep, of which, one went missing. How long should that man look for that lost sheep? Who knows where the sheep could have gotten. Maybe it was eaten. But Jesus says in Luke 15:4, that if he loses just one of them, “he will leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost UNTIL he finds it”

To drive this point home further, Jesus then immediately gives the example of a woman with ten silver coins, of which, she had somehow lost one in the house. How long does Jesus suggest she look for it? Maybe someone stole it. Maybe she misremembered. But Jesus says, “If she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully UNTIL she finds it?” (Luke 15:8)

Consider Isaac. Genesis 26 tells us that Isaac began to prosper. But he didn’t stop there. It says that he continued prospering. He didn’t stop because he tasted success. In fact in verse 13, it says that Isaac continued prospering UNTIL he became very prosperous;”

Look at what God said to Jacob in Genesis 28… “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you UNTIL I have done what I have spoken to you.” (Genesis 28:15)

Or to quote Jim Rohn… How long should you give a baby to learn how to walk? UNTIL the baby can!!!

How long is that period of “UNTIL” for you, and is there any way to shorten it?

Well, here’s the deal, you can dramatically shorten the “UNTIL” by having the right strategy or skill. Certainly God’s favor can be a big factor, but when I was in Guatemala, I was shocked to see that folks had their lawns cut by men with a machete. I didn’t see anyone using a lawn mower. So, if you’re using a machete to cut your 3 acre yard, even with God’s blessing, it’s going to take a lot longer than with an actual lawn mower.

Skill matters. Strategy matters. And what is the fountainhead of skill and strategy?

KNOWLEDGE.

The advantage of knowledge is difficult to overstate. Sure, it must be applied. And, it should be done with wisdom. And for maximum impact, it should also be paired with understanding.

My friend… I plead with you… Don’t give up. Get better equipped.
