When God Speaks Through a Dog

Very early this morning, my beloved Labradoodle Judah “barked me up”.

It was just a single bark, followed by another. I had no idea what he wanted so I asked him.

He expected me to read his mind, something he’s been trying to get me to do since he was a puppy.

So I thought maybe he had to go out. Although he loved the romp in the moonlit night, that wasn’t it.

I then guessed that perhaps he wanted some fresh cold water. BINGO!

That was it. He drank quite a bit.

But after trying to read his mind, then getting dressed and venturing into the back yard with a flashlight and then refilling his water bowl, I just wasn’t ready to fall back into bed and sleep.

Although I definitely tried! 😊

Some time later, I gave up on that vain effort and made some coffee, put on ​this violin worship music​ and dove into the Word while Judah slept contently nearby.

I must confess that most times when I open the Bible to read, nothing immediately jumps out at me. It takes pressing in. It takes prayer and asking the Lord for direction and inspiration. And even then, it seems as though there must be a thick membrane He has to get through to reach my consciousness.

But I persist anyway.

My spiritual hearing many times is like hearing a muffled sound as if pillows were wrapped around my head. I get a sense of what is said, but not always with great clarity.

Thus the pursuit. It reminds me of Paul saying he sees through a glass darkly, knowing and seeing in part.

But today there was a wonderful payoff! It came from the Parable of the Sower and its application to sales. If you’ve been following my teaching for any length of time, you may have heard me teach from that parable as it relates to sales, but today, I got tremendous insight such as I have never seen before.
