I want to tell you a story.
It just as easily could be your story.
It’s about a boy growing up on the streets of Brazil as the son of an American missionary, who came home to America in his teens, very much out of place and with less than acceptable English skills.
The thing about being raised in relative poverty with few options is that it triggers the quest for discovery.
You want to do better.
Upon coming home to America, he went to college, got a degree in finance and flung himself into the job market.
But he wanted more than being a cog in someone else’s dream.
Then, in 2002, a Christian business magazine arrived in my mailbox called Business Reform.
It was the best Christian magazine I had ever seen, and it had contributing authors I knew and recognized. I remember thinking, “How is this possible that this magazine exists and I didn’t know about it? I should be writing for it!”
I gave the magazine to my office manager Heidi and instructed her to reach out to the publisher and ask them if I could be a contributing author on the subject of sales.
But she didn’t.
She put the magazine on top of a filing cabinet and left it there for a few weeks. Then one day, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, she picked up the magazine and prayed… “God, Michael wants to be in this magazine. Would you please have them call us and invite him to write for them?”
At that selfsame hour, the executive team at Business Reform was meeting. Several in the meeting knew of me and suggested they contact me to see if I would write for them.
Within about an hour of Heidi praying that prayer, the call came through to ask me to be the person writing sales related articles.
Kinda cool. Right? Praise God!

That success didn’t happen by chance.
Joe invested in his mind to learn things the church didn’t teach, nor did he learn in university.
