Yesterday I mentioned that I would share one of the most powerful verses in Scripture related to achieving success in the marketplace. It’s found in Joshua 1:8 and was spoken upon the death of Moses and given as the secret to success and prosperity.
It wasn’t a sales funnel or an Amazon store. It was far more fundamental and far reaching, meant to put success within reach of anyone who dared follow its three guidelines. It begins with…
SAY IT: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…
That tells me that we should not be afraid to quote it, refer to it, or to speak it aloud. Rather it should be part of our normal dialog. When we verbalize something, it affects the atmosphere, records it in our memory and steers our course like a rudder on a ship. (James 3:4)
THINK IT:“but you shall meditate in it day and night…”
This means to muse, to consider, to imagine the implications and applications. It means to mutter or think out loud as you ponder the Word. As I take my dog Judah for his several walks each day, I meditate. I talk out loud. I give sound to my ethereal thoughts, knowing that every one of our words is instantly recorded and by them we are either justified or condemned. (Matthew 12:37) Hence, our self-talk is no inconsequential matter.
SEE IT: “that you may observe…”
This is not about seeing with your eyeballs. It’s more the idea of “see to it”, which does require seeing, but with your inner eyes, or as Paul refers to them, “the eyes of your understanding”.
He could have said, “Make sure”, but even that requires “seeing” which is to say, “understanding”. So how do you see with your understanding? Meditate out loud using your imagination to ponder the implications and applications of the text.
DO IT: “to do according to all that is written in it…”
This means to bring about or produce by labor (effort). In other words we are to meditate so we can see. We see, so we can do. And we must be sure to do what we see. If we do our part, this is what happens next…
RESULT:“For then you will make your way prosperous…
The word translated as prosperous means to “break out, go over or through like a river” Who can stop a river? So the promise is to break out and prosper like a flowing river. But there’s more…
It’s the “Aleph Tav”, that curious untranslated message shown some 9000 times in the Old Testament, that signifies the divine stamp or intersection of God in man’s affairs.
The Aleph Tav in the Old Testament are the first and last letters in the Hebrew alphabet and are akin to saying the “Alpha and Omega” or the “Beginning and the End”. In other words, in this case where prosperity is promised, it’s as if Jesus just stamped His name on the text for emphasis.
BONUS:“and then you will have good success.”
The word translated as “success” means that you will then be able to “choose prudently, think intelligently, live successfully and act prosperously”.
It all boils down to these three things… Thinking, speaking and doing what God’s Word says, as a way of life. That will do more than anything I know to open your understanding of God’s ways and teach you how to prosper (succeed in a prudent manner) in the marketplace.
