WARNING: Plague of “Apophenia” Expected to Peak April 8th!

That’s right folks. That plague is already walking among us. Many Christian leaders have already succumbed to it and, believe it or not, are doing their best to spread it.

The symptoms are fear, anxiety and flat out “crazy talk”.

Although it’s highly contagious, it’s also completely optional. You see, “apophenia” is defined as “the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things”.

You may have already been affected by this plague without knowing it. This year’s “apophenia season” is centered around next week’s total solar eclipse, 1 of 68 happening this century, of which 8 will be visible within the lower 48 states of America.

Now, granted… Observing a total eclipse from within the path of totality is kinda cool. Judy and I experienced that in Tennessee in 2017. It does inspire a certain sense of awe.

But here’s where it gets weird… People start looking for connections between this eclipse and something disastrous about to happen. End of the world type of stuff. And this gets Christians lining up at the rapture bus stop hoping to get on it before the moon dust hits the fan.

That’s just where the devil wants you. Off the field. Disengaged from the battle. Huddled in fear, expecting doom, and hoping to be evacuated before the battle really heats up.

But Jesus said to “Occupy till I come”. The word “occupy” in the Greek is “pragmateuomai” and means to “trade and do business“. It’s where we get the word “pragmatic” from, which is “the practice of dealing with things sensibly and realistically, based on practical rather than theoretical considerations“.

I believe God wants us very much engaged in the culture in very real and practical ways that deliver results. By the way, that does not exclude faith… it is the very demonstration of it. (James 2:20)

Symptoms of the 2024 epidemic of “apophenia”…

Ninevah: The belief that the path of totality of this year’s eclipse will pass over 7 cities named Ninevah when in fact there are at least 8 towns, hamlets or cities bearing that name, of which only 2 are within the path of totality.

Eclipse of 763 B.C.: The belief that there was an eclipse that passed over ancient Nineveh that happened on the very day Jonah arrived in town with his message to turn or burn. There was an eclipse that happened on June 15th of that year, and Jonah did live in that era, so it is possible. However, it is pure conjecture, and although plausible, it is not definite as has been claimed.

I personally would think that if that did happen and played a role in the entire city repenting, there would have been some mention in the book of Jonah about the sun going dark. But maybe I’m thinking too much.

Jonah: The belief that the path of totality will pass over a town named Jonah in Texas. It does, but not the Jonah in Oklahoma. I guess it only takes one.

Devil’s Comet: The belief that this comet which comes into view every 71 years will be visible on April 8th. It will, but it is already visible and will peak on April 21st.

Billions of Cicadas: The belief that billions or even trillions of cicadas will emerge from the ground on April 8th as some kind of scary and rare event that hasn’t happened since 1803.

Cicadas are an unusual insect and it is true that this Spring (not necessarily April 8th), two species will emerge from the ground to grab some fresh air, meet a suitable mate and reproduce. One species comes out every 13 years, while the other comes out every 17 years, which means that every 221 years (13 X 17), they both show up in the same year. Annoying, yes. Completely natural, yes. Ominous, no.

“Rare” Planetary Alignment: The belief that 5 planets (Earth, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Neptune) will align on that day which is thought to be extremely rare. However, a five planet alignment happens every two years or so – without incident. In fact, we had an 8 planet alignment on December 28th, 2022 with no discernible affect.

CERN: The belief that CERN in Switzerland will fire up the large Hadron Collider again on April 8th in attempt to discover what they call, the God particle. While that is true, it’s not their first attempt and it won’t suck planet earth into a black hole. (Check Bible for confirmation)

CERN is located in the territory of Saint Genis Pouilly. In Roman times it was called Apolliacum. The town and temple were dedicated to Apollyon – the destroyer. They have a statue of Sheva, the god of destruction out front and their logo looks like 666. But…

What does that mean?

It simply means they and their work are dedicated to a lost cause, a fallen angel or demonic entity, that has been defeated by Jesus Christ who spoiled principalities and powers, and made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15) Don’t stress about it!

666: The belief that there are 6 years, 6 months and 6 days between the 2017 total solar eclipse and this one coming on Monday. It’s always easy to trigger folks when you mention 666. It usually invokes fear, and that’s the point. But alas, it’s 6 years, 7 months, 2 weeks and 4 days.

Others say it is 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks and 6 days. (When did 6666 become a thing?) But if you want to count that way, it would be 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks and 5 days.

State governments advising to keep kids out of school and stock up on food and gas: In places like Texas that’s true, but is that nefarious or just plain practical? Think about it… They expect millions of people to flood into a narrow band of totality which will deplete resources like food and gas in those areas. Hence, it would be smart to stock up on essentials before the hordes arrive.

National Guard Called Up: That must be scary! Or is it also, just practical, for the simple purpose of crowd control? Occam’s razor comes to mind. It’s the principle often attributed to 14th–century friar William of Ockham that says that if you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the simpler one.

“X” Marks the spot: The belief that the path of the 2017 and 2024 eclipses form an “X”. No surprise there. You see that effect every time two lines cross paths. (Imagine that.) However, it does also resemble the Paleo-Hebrew letter of Tav – which is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Alpeh Tav: When combined with the 2023 Annular eclipse (not a total eclipse) the three eclipse paths resemble something that looks like the Paleo-Hebrew version of the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet “Aleph”. Put those two things together and you see something that resembles the ancient look of the “Aleph Tav”, the first and last letters of the ancient Hebrew alphabet.

The Aleph-Tav is a symbol of God’s covenant and favor – not of impending doom!

Does that mean that nothing bad will happen? Bad things have been happening since the fall of Adam and more will be coming, but here’s what you need to know about that. In the midst of troublous times, the Aleph Tav is there.

That’s exactly what we find in Daniel 9:25 which reads, “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times.” This of course was fulfilled as per Ezra and Nehemiah, but is a great example of how God is a very present help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

The word translated “times” in Daniel 9:25 is not actually a word. It is the “Aleph Tav” which appears in the Old Testament nearly 10,000 times but is translated only around 200 times. It’s another way of saying “the first and the last, the beginning and the end” or in the Greek language, the “Alpha and Omega” which is how Jesus is identified in the book of Revelation several times. It’s a reassuring indication of His presence, even in troublesome times!

Here’s my bottom line…

I fully expect more moon dust (figure of speech) to hit the proverbial fan this year. It could even be nation altering. That is not a call to head for the hills. It’s a call to action on our part.

That action begins with disengaging from the hype and reconnecting with God, in a real and personal way, where you learn to hear His voice and be guided by His Word and Spirit.

That will cure you of every symptom of “apophenia”, and give you a clear head and the ability to do what Jesus said… to occupy (trade and do business) until He returns.
