I arrived in Toronto a broken man, just 28 years of age. It was 1983.
Came in on a Greyhound with three large boxes in the belly of the bus containing the sum total of all my earthly possessions.
Gone was the beautiful custom home, where I had lived in British Columbia. Gone also was the lovely townhouse in the nearby beach community and my white Lincoln Mark V. (And those were the least of my losses… the others too painful to mention here.)
It was a cold November night, the stars competing for my attention with the callous coldness of city lights and the hum of a metropolis that didn’t care to notice I was there.
I had accepted a job selling copiers which was to commence in a few days. Other than my soon to be employer, no one knew I was coming.
I had no credit card and only $100 cash to my name.
I also had no place to shelter for the night, or for the foreseeable future. I was homeless, carless and nearly hopeless. You could say I was hanging on to life by a very thin thread.
After securing temporary lodging, a cash advance from my new employer and leasing a new vehicle, I began pounding the streets of Toronto and its bedroom communities, prospecting for companies who may be interested in buying a copier.
There were days I would make 100 physical cold calls in industrial and office parks. I thought if I just worked hard enough, made enough calls and did enough equipment demos, that I would work my way out of the very deep hole I was in.
As important as a good work ethic is, it was not nearly enough. I struggled to eke out a living, surviving on peanut butter sandwiches and apple juice.
Then one day when complaining to God about how meager life was, He asked me if I had ever run out of peanut butter. I told him that I had not.
What He said next, INSTANTLY changed my life forever.
I believe it may do the same for you as well. It seems to have had that impact on the few people I have privately shared that experience with.
Tomorrow night at 8 PM Eastern, I will for the first time share that very vulnerable experience with you as I introduce the Jesus School of Business to folks interested in learning Biblical Strategy and Natural Law for success in their chosen endeavors. (Register HERE.)
I also intend to share the one, unbelievably simple strategy (found in Proverbs) that I implemented (more out of desperation than anything) that changed my focus from merely being about trying to outwork everyone else, to actually working less than anyone else, yet producing more than had ever been accomplished by any team member in the history of the company.
So, if you’re at all interested in learning God’s ways to thrive in the marketplace, join me here tomorrow night (8PM Eastern) when I will pull the veil back on the Jesus School of Business and give you a behind the scenes tour of the courses, content and benefits that could reshape your life forever.
