Living in God’s Abundance – Without Chasing Riches!

By Michael Q. Pink

December 3, 2025

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26)

This blog is about living in God’s abundance in relationship with Him, not stacking up big bank accounts and depreciating assets INDEPENDENT of Him. Think of it this way…

If you were born into royalty and every provisional need was taken care of, how would you spend your life? Would you spend it chasing riches and worrying about provision or would you choose to live a life of meaning and purpose?

What if I told you that God has already provided everything you will ever need for life and He attached it to your purpose? In other words, to the extent you were pursuing His purpose for your life, the provision would always be there, and not in short supply.

Whether you’re called to the far flung mission field to preach the gospel, or as a school teacher in suburbia called to shape the minds of young people, or to become an entrepreneur that employs and betters the lives of others, God will provide the necessary opportunities that will yield provision equal to the task.

What if you’re already doing what God assigned for you, and walking in His purpose for your life, and still the provision you need is not sufficient to fund the vision He has given you? What then?

You’re not the first one to face that dilemma. Philippians 4:19 promises, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  You believe that to be true, because God cannot lie, but yet, that’s not your current experience. How do you reconcile the truth of God’s Word with the truth of what you know about your experience?

That question has challenged the faith of many a Christian. Most just accept it as “God’s ways are not our ways” or God is saying no for a reason, etc. But what if I told you the answer to that question is modeled for us in the life of birds?

Birds don’t sow, nor reap, nor store in barns, but they never lack for anything. They were designed by God to teach us some very powerful spiritual and practical truths so that you never need to fear lack again.

There are twelve mostly unnoticed habits that birds never fail to practice…

If you follow the advice of Jesus and learn from them and practice them, you will never have to live in fear of lack again.

Solomon, the richest man who ever lived, compared riches to an eagle, because he noted, that when you chase riches, they fly away. Solomon warned against pursuing wealth, NOT against possessing it. He understood that if you chase wealth, it escapes, but when you chase wisdom, wealth chases you.

He wrote in Proverbs 3:13 that “Happy is the man who finds wisdom… Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.” In Proverbs 8:12, 17-18, it reads, “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion… I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness.”

Provision is tied to purpose.

In 2 Chronicles 1:10, Solomon was getting launched into his purpose as king of Israel and prayed to God, “Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

Solomon knew he needed wisdom to fulfill his purpose as king and be a testimony to the nations around him. God also made sure he had great wealth to go along with his calling. He also knew that was called to build the temple, establish a united throne, and lead his nation.

His wealth came from fulfilling his assignment.

If your purpose in life is to teach school children or become a nurse, great wealth is not needed for that. Provision is attached to obedience, not to fantasies of wealth, or as James 4:3 says, “You do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

Biblically speaking, abundant provision is a byproduct of you walking out your life purpose. It’s not supposed to be the goal of life. Chasing riches can be exhausting and at times crushing. Timothy wrote “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.”

According to Matthew 6:33. Our responsibility is to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Have you ever seen a worm bank, the place where robins store up extra worms? Me neither.

The reason they don’t store up is because they know whenever they need a worm, they will find one. If they need extra to feed the newly hatched chicks, they will find extra. No worries.

The live in a manner similar to how God instructed the Israelites to live when they were in the wilderness. He sent them manna and said, “Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat… And Moses said to them, ‘Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.’ But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank.”

On the sixth day of the week, they were to gather enough for two days, so as not to labor on the Sabbath. On those days, the excess manna did not go bad, neither was there more provided from God on the Sabbath.

God provided all they could eat, but some folks worried about tomorrow and stashed some away, and it rotted. God was teaching them that His provision would always be enough and they didn’t have to come up with schemes to get it.

They just had to trust God and obey His Word, then go outside like a bird, and gather it up. Nothing more. Nothing less. I think I just heard someone say “I’m doing what I’m called to do, but I don’t see any money laying on the front lawn. How can I go and gather up what I don’t see?”

So glad you asked!  That’s why I’m writing my book, tentatively called, FREE AS A BIRD – Living in God’s Abundance – Without Chasing Riches. The answers you seek are found in God’s Word, but they are also on display in His creation, specifically the birds.

Well Thursday night, December 4th at 8 PM Eastern, I will be continuing my free lessons on the wisdom God has put on display in the lives and habits of birds. In fact, Jesus admonished us to actually study what birds do, so we would know that we never have to fear lack again.

If you have previously registered for the free Supernatural Business training, you can use the same zoom link as before. But to make it easy, you can also GO HERE to see the schedule of upcoming classes and to register again if needed.
