In life, we tend to get what we expect. Rarely does our experience exceed our expectations.
Let me open the treasure chest of His word and find the inexpressible, constrained by vowels and verbs, nouns and consonants. Shapes that are distinct but simple.
They are the letters we hobble together to represent words. Words which scratch the itch, yea, the longing of our soul.
We ache for expression, in part because we desire understanding. Not just of the world around us, but also perhaps more simply… to be understood.
Oh, that I might find the syllables to tie together in perfect harmony that would give expression to the inner longing of my soul. That desire to be like God, not equal to Him, but “of Him”, a child as It were, of God.
Born of Him, partaking of His essence. By no means fully God, but enough of Him to have Him as my portion.
For what I most deeply long for is connection… Connection to God. My Creator, my Father and the lover of my soul. But as deeply as I yearn for Him, it pales in comparison to His desire for me.
Thank you for sharing but I believe you have articulated the cry of all our hearts!!! It is the age old cry… No matter how much we get of Him would the longing of more of an Infinite God would ever be satisfied?
I agree that we can be both satiated and yet always longing more because there is no end with God. Thanks for posting Linda!
Amen!! My soul longs for Him like a deer pants for water!!. Thank you for being open as always a good word.
Thank you for posting your encouraging word Toby!
Sitting here quietly, waiting for the sun to rise. Your meditation read and reread. Blessed. You capture ‘the cry of my heart’ perfectly, and you ‘give expression to the inner longings of my soul’ beautifully…increasing the longing exponentially. Thank you for deciding to share.
Thank you Connie for responding. Encouraged to know it was a blessing!
I agree with Michael. As a professional writer myself I can relate to the need and desire to connect with the human race and find that I don't "worry" about getting all my words right with the Lord. He completely understands and knows my mind, my heart, my wants, needs and desires. Having said that I also approach Him with humble boldness if there is such a thing and with reverence, He is worthy and I am not. I know and understand that the Lord values me and Loves me in ways I can't even comprehend. He loved me when I was unlovable. The word says God is Love, I am not so sure I know what His Love is completely made of. I only say that because of my small imagination, oh I read the word and can understand the word and I accept what it says about God loving us. I just don't know what hate is. I can't describe or define it. Webster has a definition but I'm not falling for it. I sincerely know that I don't know what Hate is, which begs the question, can I describe what Love is? really deeply as God sees it not just as I read it… I believe none of us know and wont until we are in His presence. We lack with our small and simple minds and how we love to complicate things. Thank God that He is God and none of us. Yes brother "Connection" it's a vital part of Creation and us creating is a very real closeness we have with the image of our God He is the Great Creator and we are made in His image. When we create, write, paint, draw, build, sing, speak, when we do anything that taps into the "creation factor" we are "belonging" to our Father God in a very personal way and belonging is the very powerful connection, a sense of Home all to which our Father God, His son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit is to every one of us whom believe. God is my sense of Home. He is the connection. He is where we belong. Connection to Humans is an amazing place, we experience it with one another everyday, people ask me what my favorite thing in the world is? I always tell them "Human beings" I love them in all their victories and defeats in all their beauty and ugliness in all their conquering's and failures in their dullness and their sparkle in their stumbles to become better and their lack of interests and desires to give up. What an amazing creation from Our great Creator. It is us the Human and the complexities of we, so simple that should tell the entire world there is a one true living God and He loves us all. sincerely Dan Beaver
Thank you Dan for taking the time to invest your heart into this post! Keep pursuing Him my brother!
Blessings, Michael
Good morning, dear brother! Thank you for articulating this sentiment so clearly and concisely; that is gift I am grateful you have chosen to share with your online family. To be fully known by God and to pursue greater depths of intimacy with Him, to fully know Him, is the growing desire of my heart, too. Bless you, Judy, and Judah
Thank you Elizabeth. Judy, Judah and I are truly blessed. Glad to pass on some of the blessing!
Thank you so much for sharing these deep conversations with God. Yes indeed, I also want the visible expression of being of HIM- a chip off the old block.
I love your choice of words “chip off the old block”! Thanks for posting a comment!
Thank you Michael for sharing your heart so intimately. I frequently listen to a guy named Dan Mohler and what you expressed here he teaches, and it really resonated with me deeply and I want to know God more intimately and stop making excusing to not find the time. Blessings Brother!
Thank you Christiaan! I have heard of Dan Mohler, but don’t believe I’ve heard him. So glad this was a blessing to you my brother!
This is simply lovely. Almost a poem, could be the start of a hymn! Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you Suzy… It is somewhat poetic, isn’t it. Thanks for your comment!
Michael, I'm so glad you decided to share this. It is absolutely beautiful! Simple, yet deeply thought provoking.
Thank you for commenting Teresa… It’s a great encouragement!
I think Phoenix brings out the best in us all!!
(Lol……speaking as a resident I had to say something about our “Sonshine State!”)
Thank you for visiting……hope you enjoyed your stay and I would say by your words of Praise unto God…..you did! 🙂 Lovely!!!
I also found my new favorite restaurant (Flower Child). Great food. Wonderful visit.
2Co 5:2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our [immortal, eternal] celestial dwelling,
2Co 5:6 So then, being always filled with good courage and confident hope, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord
I love it Michael, that’s our groaning and deep desire.
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Daniel… Thank you for adding that beautiful Scriptural context. You’re a blessing my friend!
Still water runs deep.
Nevertheless, it has moving currents.
