In Proverbs 23:23, we read, “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.”
Therein lays a profound secret, so oft ignored, but so readily available to any seeker of Truth. If you read my blog yesterday, (Peanut Butter Diet) you know I promised that tonight I would reveal the words God spoke to me in Toronto when I was barely existing off of peanut butter sandwiches that instantaneously changed my life for the good.
I also promised to share the one thing from Proverbs that God showed me in January of 1986 that relieved me of the need to outwork everyone, and instead learn what it meant to bind truth around my neck and write it on the tablet of my heart. As one man recently said…
“Information, informs but revelation transforms!“
I didn’t understand for the longest time that truth wasn’t just a set of facts. Real Truth is a person and that person is Jesus Christ. He said of Himself, “I am the way, the TRUTH and the life…” (John 14:6)
There was a day back in 2010, just five weeks after my wife of 24 years had died when I was laying on the family room floor, a great while before sunrise, wailing and feeling completely inconsolable.
But then Truth stepped into the room.
I didn’t see Him, but He saw me and spoke ever so clearly to me. He started by telling me to read John 8:32 which reads, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
And then He began to speak out of His essence, words of Truth, that literally transformed me from a man of deep sorrow with unbearable pain to a man who was dancing with unspeakable joy which inspired me to write a blog that day called, Dancing with Cappuccino.
His very words were part of Him, and I ate them and they became part of me. That is far deeper than I can explain right now, but suffice it to say, Truth indeed did set this grieving man completely free!
So, a couple days ago, (August 23rd), I was reading Proverbs 23 and noticed how a quite familiar passage stuck out to me. I decided to deep dive that verse and fully expand on its meaning, and when I did, it set me free again! I call it the MQP-AMP version (Michael Quentin Pink – Amplified)
“Buy the Truth and sell it not.” (New King James Version)
MQP-AMP Version… “Intentionally pursue at personal cost and effort what is reliable, firm, unalterable and God-aligned, (the truth) and guard it as your greatest possession, because it is life-giving, reality-revealing and covenantal in nature. Never surrender, betray or exchange it for comfort, compromise or gain, because to part with something of such infinite value, is an act of self-betrayal.”
“Also, wisdom, instruction and understanding” (New King James Version)
MQP-AMP Version… Also, pursue with a passion… the ability to skillfully navigate life with mastery and expertise (wisdom), embrace the corrective process that keeps you aligned with truth and wisdom (instruction), and purposefully obtain the ability to see how things connect, and to think strategically and analytically with the capacity to see the WHY behind things, so you can discern between options or nuance (understanding).
If that level of Truth appeals to you, then join me Tuesday Night at 8 PM Eastern.
I will be sharing how the Truth of God’s Word as revealed in Scripture and manifested in the created order provide incredible models for thriving in the marketplace – without having to compromise your values.
