In 2004, I drove a brand new Lexus LS 430 off the show room floor. It was pearl white with gold trim and ran smoothly with an impressive amount of “giddy up and go”. It was a luxury ride and built to last.
But I kept getting notices every so often that it was time to bring my car in for a service. They would do things like give me NEW OIL and BALANCE my tires. And every once in a while they told me my TIMING belt had to be RESET (because timing is everything). Of course, they would flush the radiator with NEW WATER to keep things COOL UNDER PRESSURE in traffic.
I followed their advice and for 350,000 miles my Lexus never failed. We took multiple road trips of 7,000 miles or more. We drove to or through virtually every state in the union except Alaska and Hawaii.
We climbed mountains, drove through blizzards and deserts, rainstorms and of course, lots of sunshine as well. But ONE THING WE DID REGULARLY was take it into the dealership for service where they could RESET everything that had gotten loose, or damaged or dirty or just plain worn out.
The only reason we traded it in for an SUV was because as you can see in the video below, our faithful Labradoodle, Judah outgrew it…
I share this analogy because it seems folks accept the fact that their vehicles need refreshing, their homes need upkeep, but we tend not to extend that kind of care to ourselves. And if we do, it tends most often to focus on our bodies.
