Please take a moment and read Isaiah 30:1-3 first…
“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; who walk to go down to Egypt, and have not asked My advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and trust in the shadow of Egypt shall be your humiliation.”
When this was written to Judah, they were attempting to secure political and military alliances with Egypt to defend themselves against the rising Assyrian empire—rather than trusting in God.
Egypt is well understood to represent the ways of the world. Why did Israel want to unite with them? Because Egypt did have real military strength, (though not enough to defeat Assyria at the time). Nonetheless, Israel chose the route they could see with their natural eyes (Egypt had lots of chariots and cavalry).
Here’s what happened next…
Israel paid a large sum to Egypt for the alliance.
Egypt tried to help once (at Eltekeh), but was defeated by Assyria. The Assyrian field commander mocked Hezekiah’s dependence on Egypt, calling Pharaoh a “splintered reed” (2 Kings 18:21).
End result: Egypt could not deliver.
HERE’S MY QUESTION…
Have you ever invested time and money into alliances (money making programs or opportunities) that did not deliver for you?
They may have failed due to poor execution on your part, but they may also have failed because you were leaning on the ways of Egypt rather than trusting God to learn and apply His ways.
The net result of choosing the glittering ways of Egypt is always loss… Either loss of money and hope, or financial gain in exchange for losing a piece of your soul.
In the end, Jerusalem was spared only because the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers (2 Kings 19:35). The deliverance was by God, not by Egypt.
God is worthy of our trust!
So many go online and see promise after promise of various programs to secure financial freedom. It may be YouTube advertising or Facebook. It may be Amazon or real estate or day trading, etc.
For the most part, what is being offered is either straight from Egypt (metaphorically speaking) or on many occasions, being offered by Christians who got it from Egypt and have added a Bible verse or two and call it “kingdom”.
