“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”(Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Please allow me to throw some light on this that will help set you free…
Lesson Number One
Being “blessed” (“baruch” in Hebrew) means much more than just being happy. It means, empowered, postioned, and aligned for flourishing. The word “trust” (“batach” in Hebrew) means to lean your full weight upon something… to feel secure because of what you’re resting on.
This is not “Try harder to believe”
It’s “Your life is only as stable as what you’re leaning on.”
Lesson Number Two
“Like a tree planted by the waters.”This is a deliberately positioned tree. Not wild, not random, not just surviving. It implies intentional placement, designed environment, and access to a consistent source.
In this verse, the waters represent God Himself as the sourfce with continuous provision, not occasional miracles. This is the opposite of “hustle-based living”.
It’s not, “Find water today.”
It’s “Live where the water already is.”
Lesson Number Three
“Spreads out its roots by the river.” This represents the invisible systems that create visible results. Roots are hidden, but they determine everything. They are a picture of deep connection, ongoing intake, and quiet, consistent dependency.
The roots don’t chase water… They extend into it. The business principle here is: “You don’t chase provision, you extend into the source.” Your roots are the beliefs you choose, the identity you hold, the daily connection you practice and what you actually rely on when no one is watching.
Lesson Number Four
“Will not fear when heat comes.” Pressure reveals what you’re trusting as your source. Heat comes. That’s a promise. Jesus said, “In this world you will have tribulation”. It may be in the form of economic pressure, uncertainty, opposition, even delays.
The promise is NOT that there will be no heat.
The promise IS that the heat won’t destabilize you.
How is that possible?
Because for many, uncertain supply brings fear, but secured supply brings confidence. If your supply is external, heat creates panic. If your supply is rooted, heat changes nothing.
Lesson Number Five
“Its leaf will be green.” Green leaves offer visible vitality. In other words, you don’t look like your circumstances, because your outer life reflects your inner supply.
While others are burning out, drying up, or withering under pressure, this person stays visibly alive and thriving regardless of the circumstances.
This is sustained life, not seasonal performance.
Lesson Number Six
“Not anxious in the year of drought.” This is long term stability. No longer referring to the heat of short-term pressure, we’re talking about drought, which is long-term lack.
Despite the heat escalating into full on drought, there is still no anxiety, because anxiety is tied to external conditions, while the tree is operating from an internalized, continuous supply.
This is the death of the “feast or famine” cycle.
Lesson Number Seven
“Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” This is output without interruption. This is the finale of the whole thing…
While most people’s fruit is seasonal, this passage describes unbroken fruitfulness (results, impact, provision, influence, and multiplication). Not only does the tree survive, but it produces continuously even in heat, drought, and pressure from all sides.
This is essentially the tree version of what Jesus later says in Matthew 6:26… “Behold the birds…” They don’t store, strive or stress – because they operate from design-aligned supply.
That’s one of the smartest Cardinals I’ve ever heard and seen, pretty slick
LOL. Thanks for reading it Gary!
I will check it out Mike! Bless you brother…
Thank you my dear brother Darrell!
