If you want to be “free as a bird” and soar to great heights or simply fly above the conflicts below, you’re going to need to preen. There’s no getting around it. Your natural talent (i.e. your wings) will only get you so far. If you want to survive for the long haul and thrive in any environment, you will need to preen… daily. That means spending more time developing and honing your craft, than showcasing it to others.
The temptation when we watch birds fly is to think, “If I only had wings like that, I could fly.” That’s like watching a concert pianist perform at Carnegie Hall and thinking, “If I only had a grand piano like that, I could perform to packed out concert venues too.”
Obviously, without the piano, you can’t be a pianist, just like a bird without wings, can’t fly, but it takes far more than having the right equipment to excel. Failure to preen may be what’s holding you back from realizing the dreams you have.
Preening is the difference between rising and falling, between surviving a challenge or being ravaged by it, between readiness and destruction.
Preening is the daily, unglamorous work of restoring alignment, removing what drains you, and reinforcing what makes your life and work, effortless under pressure. How and whether you choose to preen will determine the altitude of your destiny.
I’m aware of seven reasons birds preen, what that enables them to do, and how that corresponds to our daily, personal, and business lives. Join me Thursday, January 15th at 8 PM Eastern for another FREE class of Supernatural Business for the rest of the story. (Register HERE)
