The Power of Understanding: How to Get It & Why It Matters!

100 fold increase, market, sell, understanding

I found myself studying the parable of the sower this morning and was so encouraged by the new things I learned. How awesome it is, to read something you’ve read and studied for years and still find something new! You can see what I learned on the video I just recorded if you prefer to get it that way.

The main point I wanted to share with you this morning that really popped for me, was that Jesus said that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. He went on to explain, that anyone who hears the word of the kingdom, and DOES NOT UNDERSTAND it, will have that knowledge snatched away from them. Those WITH UNDERSTANDING will reap a 30, 60, even 100 fold increase.

It is incumbent upon us who preach and teach, or sell and market our goods, to be conscientious to cause understanding.

This occurs through a process shared by Solomon in Proverbs of imparting knowledge, revealing application (wisdom) and impacting the heart (understanding). Understanding answers the question, “What does this mean to me?”

The very best way to cause understanding, one that’s even better than an illustration or story, is by getting the listener to actually try and do what you are teaching them. Remember how Jesus sent out the disciples to go and “do” the same things He said and did?

The very definition of the Greek word used for “understanding” in the parable of the sower means “the coming together of the perception with the thing being perceived.” In other words, it’s where theory meets practice. When that happens, you’ve got it!

You can watch videos about learning to ride a bike all day long, but until theory meets practice, you will never truly know how to ride a bike. You will only know in theory. I pray this short video will help you not only have understanding for how to win souls to Christ, make disciples of men and women but also to give people the confidence to buy into your value proposition, that you may experience an abundant harvest in your life.

Until next time, be fruitful and multiply!

  • Excellent video on the Power of Understanding, Michael. Very well explained and I loved the analogy you used about riding a bike….so true and so poignant. The wisest man in all the world, King Solomon stated in Proverbs 24:3&4 “through wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. One needs all 3, wisdom (to built), understanding (to be established) and knowledge (to fill the rooms with riches). May our houses be built, established and filled with God’s riches…..

    • Thanks for commenting Lili. Not to many folks have really carefully observed the three elements of knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Bless you for sharing!

  • I so enjoyed this video…I’m going to use it with the ladies at the training center I oversee. it shares the concept of moving from knowledge to wisdom to understanding to doing so simply and with a great illustration using the bike. Thanks Michael for your insight and instruction.

    • Hi Debby;

      Thank you for your kind remarks. I’m grateful you can use the video with your ladies group. God bless you as you share!

  • Another excellent teaching, Michael. I agree that the analogy of the bicycle was a really good one! Lord, give Your people understanding, that Your word might be life to us!
