Let us Run...
By
May 26, 2009"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift..." Ecc 9:11 "...let us run with patience the race that is set before us" Heb 12:1 The way I see it, we are all in a race. We didn't sign up for a race, but we are in one. You may not feel like being in one and you may drop out or not care about how you finish or if you finish. In fact, if you haven't felt like that at some point in your life, you haven't lived long enough. The common Greek word for race is "stadion" which is where we get the word stadium. It is also a distance of 600 feet and thus most races were sprints. But Paul uses a different word for "race". He uses the Greek word "agon" from which we get the word "pleasure". OK... I was just seeing if you were paying attention. It is where we get the word "agony". Paul is telling us that life is not a sprint (stadion). It's a marathon, an agony to run, but run we must and the secret to running an agonizing marathon is patience and as the next verse reveals, it will help a great deal to be looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. What I want you to take home today is the realization that we are in a marathon of a race. It will last until we die. While there is great joy along the way, there is also considerable agony. The agony is proof that you are still in the race and there is a great cloud of witnesses both in this life and among those who have gone on before us, who are rooting for you and cheering you on. I am among those cheering for you.

Thank you again, Michael, I hope and pray that what God is doing right now is calling everyone who hears to this message of the race before us because the time is getting short. My prayers daily are for encouragement and blessing for you that you may continue your mission of enlightenment for others. Thank you!!

Thanks for the insight Michael. I was down on myself for not maintaining my happyness factor, due to a little warfare. But the Lord reminded me this morning that the war isn't going to stop having battles.; it's just important that we fight. So your email this morning is confirming this. I must still be in the race, the devil tried to pull me back. Incidentally, he is back under my feet and I am back in the race.

This is rich, Michael. I so appreciate the way you write with articulation of speech that obviously comes from God. I think I mentioned that before!
I had this thought that I might add because I have seen those in the body of Christ making assumptions as to where they are in the race based on what is transpiring in this natural realm. Through the process of trial and error in rightfully dividing the word of truth, I am now convinced that we can only know where we are through revelatory understanding that is being imparted to us as we stay engaged in spiritual warfare. In the midst of certain challenges, we might be hoping within that we are close to the finish line of one race (as in many races within The Race) and jump to the conclusion that the victory is manifesting based on some outward occurrence when, in spiritual actuality, we may be only a third of the way there. The enemy will send things our way if he sees we are making judgments based on our natural senses to cause us to relax in the fight or lighten up before we have achieved the victory and fully taken back the spoil that Jesus paid the price to get back into our hands.
We cannot compromise with the enemy at any level; and we have to keep in mind that he has had thousands of years more experience in utilizing every means at his disposal to tear down and destroy what God has wrought, while we continue to war from the standpoint of having already attained the victory through Christ Jesus and speak of those things that be as though the work that God has wrought in them has already been done.
We need to stay in each race until God says it's over and we have been given our breakthrough into the next level the Holy Spirit has waiting for us. It won't happen until we have learned all that we are supposed to learn and not a minute sooner no matter how much the enemy would like for us to drop the ball at a moment when God's strategic timing is most crucial. We walk by faith and not by sight...
Continued blessings,

I have learned in part to run this race with patience and I started with being thankful, gratedful and praising Him. It seems the longer I keep doing it, it creates an atmosphere of worship. Thanks Michael

Michael,
Great thread. You've got me reading my bible extremely slowly. I look up every single word now. The word run in Heb 12:1 \"occurs in Greek writings denoting to incur extreme peril, which it requires the exertion of all one's effort to overcome\" (Strong's Lexicon).
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Another conundrum wrapped in an enigma. We have to run the race, enduring agony, and providing exertion, BUT it is Christ in us, the hope of glory, that provides the strength and ability to overcome.

We do need to run the race with perserverance.
The following verses go along with this.
In 1 Cor 9:24-26 God's Word says:
24 Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. 25 All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. NLT
and in Matt 6:33
33 and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. NLT
We are to run the race, but not just to be in it, but to win, to win an eternal prize. Running straight to Jesus, purpose in every step. (intense focus)
His Kingdom, not ours being that focus.
Grace and Peace,
Rick
