What Are You Waiting For? Time And Chance HAPPEN - Part 2 of a Bunch
By
May 20, 2009"Say not, There are yet four months, and then comes harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." (John 4:35) Flipping through the gospel channels this morning, I heard a fiery preacher telling people that a Big Door of Opportunity was about to open up for them. My instant reaction was to agree with that. I want a big door to open for me just like you do. As soon as I had agreed with that statement, I believe the Lord allowed me to see the fallacy of that kind of thinking. How many times have you heard statements like, "the harvest is coming" or "your breakthrough is just around the next corner" or "bring the harvest Lord"? And now we can add to that, "The Lord is going to open up a big door for you." But what He helped me understand today is that the door has already been opened! The breakthrough occurred when Jesus destroyed the works of the devil, conquered death and Hell and sat down at the right hand of God. The harvest is rotting in the field while we pray for revival. Jesus is telling us to open our eyes and see! Listen closely. This morning as my wife and I went for our daily walk, I held my walking stick out in front of me so the end was about 3 - 4 feet in front of me. As I walked, I kept trying to reach the end of the stick but it stayed just a little in front of me, never quite coming into my grasp. As long as you are believing something good is going to happen, be that a harvest, a breakthrough, an open door, etc but you never bring that expectation into the present, it will always remain just beyond your grasp. The devil doesn't care what you believe about tomorrow as long as it remains in the future. He only gets scared when you bring that promise, that expectation into the "now" and see it materialized and come to fruition. We've got to stop hoping for a brighter tomorrow and start believing for a better today. And that means acting accordingly. Act as though the door has been opened. Act as though the breakthrough has already been accomplished. Act as though the harvest field is truly ripe and ready to be picked. Yes, we will still have to go to work and gather the harvest, but we need to do that today and not always be putting it off to tomorrow.

This is so true!! The other day, I told a co-worker that God was going to take care of me. I sensed the Lord saying to me \" Going to take care of you, what about now\"? I've changed my wording and said God is taking care of me now. This is confirmation for me.
Thanks!!

Excellent observation and so timely for me to read right now. It is all too easy to rest on \"hope\" for the future as the escape clause from taking advantage or even seeing what is available NOW. \"Breakthrough\" is such a big word in some circles and it can create a \"hope deferred makes the heart sick\" experience when breakthrough based on some future event never arrives: the better job, the opportunity to get to the next level, the financial freedom etc. Don't stop preaching you are onto to something! Thank you.

As I read this I as reminded of the Church of Ephesis. Paul had warned them that wolves would try to destroy it. Then to see that it had lost its first love. We must not put off to tomorrow what must be done today. Ready in and out of season to go through 'open doors' no matter where we are.

Wow, this is terrific. Makes alot of sense Michael. Yes, and we know that procrastination is the seed of self-destruction. Someone once explained to me that the thing you know you need to overcome, or the challenge in your life that bothers you the most, \"The one that absolutely burns a hole thru ya\" as he said; and it would be a step forward in your life to more self control (breaking a bad habit for example) could be the \"Assignment\" that God has put you on this earth to accomplish. This is your Goliath. Remember God said \"It is better to have self control that to be able to conquer a whole city.\" [Paraphrase of Proverbs 16:32] So be it mental or physical. The Devil likes nothing more than to keep you right where you are. Never doing the thing that will make you feel \"worthy\" of thinking better of yourself. Never thinking you are accomplishing your goal today, but maybe tomorrow. Here's one to write down. \"Maybe tomorrows = empty yesterdays!\" Do that good thing that you know will move you forward today; in life, love, relationship, Christ. Fear not! He is with you NOW. Simply write it down, and then check it off in the new 18 hours. And when you accomplish this thing, or perhaps a major step toward this bigger thing, please do not forget to remember the one who helped you to overcome. He loves to celebrate with you! I want you to picture Christ standing at the finish line, saying \"Come on!... I knew you could do it! That is why I created you!\" (Remember, you were a winner in a race of millions at conception.) Then after, bring hope and belief to others that they too can overcome, and in the process perhaps share Christ as your power to overcome. It can be contagious! Thank you Mike, I love your column. Maybe we could work together sometime.

Yes!
Funny about the \"timing\". This morning, as I was worshipping the LORD, I was singing spontenous songs to Him, one of which was saying:
Faith is NOW.
Faith is NOW.
Faith is NOW.
Glory to God! He's so good about confirmation.
Everything has already been prepared. We just have to go and do and He leads.
Thank you for posting!

Michael,
A few weeks ago, I heard a message at church that fell into the category of focus on future blessings that God showed you was a falacious way of thinking. That message was entitled, \"How to Make Your Dreams Come True.\" It was based upon the dreams God gave to Joseph and how those dreams came true. The falacy of the message was that it glorified Joseph instead of God as the one who made Joseph' s dreams come true. The pastor spoke of Joseph' s expertise, diligence, faithfulness and patience as a business manager as the reasons Joseph' s dreams came true. The falacious intent of the message was to teach that any man with business expertise, who is diligent, faithful and patient will have his dreams come true also. The message overlooked entirely that is was God who gave Joseph his dreams and it was God who made these dreams come true. The fact that Joseph had all those good qualities was not a credit to him but rather to God who imbued him with such good qualitites.
It is very hard for us time-bound creatures to comprehend that God is not bound by time but he chooses to operate within the time constraints that he has created for his creation. St. Peter writes that with God a thousand years is like a day. When God wills something to happen, he sees it happening in the eternal \"now\" in which he alone exists. Thus, from God' s viewpoint, Christ, the Lamb of God, was slain from the foundation of the world as it says in Rev. 13:8. But for us humans, Christ was crucified at a time long after the foundation of the world. We humans all exist in the framework of God' s timing and nothing we may wish or dream for can happen unless it is according to God' s will and plan for our lives. This is why we should always pray in accordance with God' s will. With respect to business planning, St. James says in James 4:13:-17, \"Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we will live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boasting; and all such boasting is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Jesus said that worrying and thinking about the future about when we will get our breakthrough or when we will get our stuff will do us no good but we should seek first God' s kingdom and his righteousness in the here and now and then all things we need will be added unto us. Thus our focus should be on what God is doing now to restore his kingdom on earth. And when we shift to such an unselfish focus, then and only then will God show us what our role is in this most noble of all endeavors. We will then have the unselfish mentality of the early Christians who held all things in common and no man considered anything his own. They knew that everything belonged to God who created everything and they knew that his will and plan for earth would come to pass in his timing just as his holy prophets have prophesied. And it is written of the early Christians that they had favor of all men as well as the favor of God.
Thus endeth my rant for the day.

In a day where \"the Lord told me\" this bears witness because EXACTLY the same thing I felt that Father God impressed on me. Not verbatim but mine was \"I got you back\" not I will bless you I AM BLESSED, and I will stand on that promise as a mighty oak. My biggest challenge is the memory of who I use to be and not recieving His prefect love towards me which cast out fear.
Thanks
