The Day of Adversity

"If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small." (Prov 24:10) When we were in school, we had to take tests to pass to the next level. Those tests typically threw a lot of tough questions at us that we wouldn't normally have to deal with in a similar period of time elsewhere. And yet, we were measured by them. More importantly, we were able to get a measure of ourselves, discover our weak points and realize our strengths. So it is with adversity. It comes to test, to try us, to measure our strength. So how do you respond to adversity? Do you moan and complain or do you embrace the adversity knowing it is a tool to reveal both weakness and strength? Not that adversity is pleasant, but the fruit of it can be sweet indeed. This verse in Proverbs transliterates into "If you slacken in the day of tightness, your firmness is as a pebble." Imagine you are holding on to one end of a piece of rope and out of nowhere, someone or something grabs the other end and begins to pull - tightly. If you offer little or no resistance, you are at the whim of the circumstance. Your supposed firmness that you thought you had carries no more weight than a pebble. Are you going through adversity now? Faint not. Hold on tightly to the rope, your lifeline, your faith in the Rock of Ages, who will anchor you safely and bring you through any and every storm.

Good words Michael. Sometimes it seems easier to let go of a situation rather than to keep holding on to something that appears to be going no where, and fast. What do you do when all of the \"experts\" tell you that you need to move on? How are we to react when every time we turn around there is a negative report? It is during these times that we need to rest in the promises of the Lord. We have to know that He loves us with an everlasting love. As my pastor put it yesterday, sometimes God allows us to go through uncertain times to draw us into a closer relationship with Him. There is a parallel relationship that we have with the Lord God our Father and the relationship that we may have with our own offspring. If we gave our own offspring everything that they asked for, without a struggle or waiting period, what kind of offspring do we produce? Right. They become spoiled. Just think about that for a moment and then think about the fact that God who is Love is always working things out for our good. Another way to put that is the fact that if we who are evil try to give good gifts to our children, what more our heavenly father who is good. It's so very reassurring to know that regardless to what happens to us, That our heavenly Father who is full of love is in complete control. Another scenario that just came to my mind, before I go, is when the disciples were in the boat and the wind and the waves were tossing the boat to and fro. Even though the Lord was on the boat with them, they looked at the negative reports they received and began to panic. They rushed and woke up the sleeping Lord and asked him if he cared that they were going to perish. He then got up and calmly spoke to the wind and the waves and there was a quietness. He then turned to his disciples and asked them where were their faith. It was as if He was saying you need to look to and rely upon the Lord always and not to worry about anything. It was also as if He was saying to these chosen 12 \"if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.\" Thank you Sir for you very encouraging words. Continue to walk in His favor. Percy.

Michael, Good word! Hebrews 6:12 reminds us that it through faith AND PATIENCE we inherit the promises! The \"patience factor\" wherein our endurance and consistency is challenged is where the opportunity for great spiritual growth can occur. For it's there, during the trying of our faith (for the purpose of it's approving) that we have the potential to become conformed more closely into the image of Jesus, who is the SAME yesterday, today and forever! Remaining steadfast upon the promises in the midst of adversity demands tapping into the force of joy, when our flesh would much rather whine and complain! When the battle seems to be raging most, is where we need to learn to rejoice even the more! Not rejoicing \"for\" the battle, but in the midst of it, keeping our hope fixed on the inevitable victory our faith in His promise assures! Mitch

Thank you for that word. To overcome adversity we need to be like the submarine that is to have the word of God on the inside to counteract the external force of adversity. Be blessed!!!!

Thank you for this article! Just this past Easter season I knew of people who faced Adversity. In our church a 30 yr old worship leader unexpectedly passed away. His wife is newly pregnant. In another situation a 32yr old man in Christian ministry passed away whos wife is due with twins. Then in another situation a Chrisitan couple who had fasted and prayed through a difficult pregancy had their newborn baby girl pass away in their arms after living for only about 52 minutes. In all these events, these families have a great testimony because they were prepared for adversity. Their hope in is God. Just like that newly release song by Building 429 \"Always\" www.building429.com Blessings, Day
