Get Away From the Pests That Consume…

 Let me help you recall the premise of this series of 7 lessons for increasing your productivity... On Barro Colorado, in the heart of the Panama Canal, a test was done with 35 pairs of young plants. Half were protected from pests and half were not. The protected half grew 10 times faster and was already 5 ½ times larger in just twenty months. The only difference was being sheltered from pests. We have already discussed four natural strategies rainforest plants use to minimize the impact of pests. Today, we look at the fifth. It's called, "leaf production when plants are rare" and it is highly effective. Some types of plants actually delay putting out new leaves (which are the most vulnerable) until the dry season when many of the pests have died off or gone elsewhere. With fewer pests, they have faster and more complete growth. This speaks to me of getting away - Finding a place of refuge where the distractions of life can't find us. For me, it includes my lanai where I am writing this blog right now. My cell phone is in the house. The sky is thundering and threatening to rain. I am by myself and totally absorbed in this mission of writing my blogs. No interruptions allowed. For bigger projects, I may go away for an extended period of time - Perhaps to a rainforest or a beach or a log cabin in the mountains, but always away. It works best for me. You might start by setting up an imaginary get away right in your home or office, with door closed, phone shut off, email program shut down and clear instructions to those who know where you are that you are in your "no pest zone" for the next two hours. Try it today for at least an hour, if not longer, and see if you don't get 10 times more done than you otherwise would. Until next time, be fruitful, then multiply.

Michael, What a wonderful encouraging post - this was one especially meaningful to me and a confirmation of what the Lord has been speaking to me about. So thank you for this. Some of the things I enjoy about you and your writings; they are based and centered in the Word and are all about relationship with Jesus; you share with passion (oh that more of God's people would have passion); and you focus on action, putting the Word and God's principles into action, it's not just about sharing facts for head knowledge. Your writings are also simple, which is so good, I try to follow the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Saint. I find that genius is seen in simplicity. Abundant blessings to you in Christ!
