This Really Happened

There was a time decades ago when I owed the bank a $1,500 payment and had no money and no credit. One evening, while at a home bible study, a young man asked for prayer for his sore knee. We prayed, but nothing seemed to happen.

Inwardly, I was skeptical and judgmental and thought that if he really believed what was just prayed, he would jump up and walk, but he didn’t. At that moment, the Holy Spirit challenged me that if I believed we should act on our prayers as if they were answered, why wouldn’t I march into the bank as if I actually had the funds and make the payment? It seemed ludicrous. I was broke and had no income.

But God was speaking to me; so the next morning, I got up and headed out the door to the bank to hand over $1,500 cash, though I had absolutely no money in my wallet. As I was driving to the bank I was imagining the scene. I would ask for the loan officer who had called me. I would tell him I was there to make the payment. I would open my wallet and begin to count out the money to him. To be honest, I was scared, but I was still going to the bank, prepared to make a fool of myself. I didn’t know what else to do.

On the way, I decided to stop by a friends place to pick something up that I would need for the day. When I walked in, he said they had just finished praying for me and the Holy Spirit told them to write me a check for $2,000 to compensate for some of my input. They had no idea about the bank situation.

Needless to say, I accepted the funds and continued on my way to the bank where I cashed the check and made my payment. Call it a coincidence if you must, but you will never convince me of that. I had just that day tapped into the riches of glory, stepped out in faith and experienced a miracle of provision. I am only now beginning to understand what happened!

Good example. Who knows how many opportunities we have missed to bless or be blessed due to the lack of faith in those whom the Holy Spirit is prompting. It's amazing how our lack of faith can not only affect us, but also others. Your story is a perfect example. Praise God and may we all be more willing to appear foolish when prompted by the Holy Spirit to \"act as if\".

You are so right Larry... I hope my readers will understand like you did that this whole thing was contingent upon God doing the speaking (leading). If it had only been my wishful thinking, it would have been embarrassing indeed. As always, we appreciate your input!

That's Incredible. Thanks for sharing. I am glad to find someone who understands that it is not fruitful to \"labor\" in worry, when \"labor\" in prayer and \"wisdom\" in action is so much more fulfilling to the soul and shows just how our great and awsome God works in our lives. I am watching for His provision on a similar situation I am facing in my business, only many times that amount. He will provide, as I have followed Him in this action and will give Him the glory for it all. I have enjoyed your posts and the \"Rainforest\" series. They fit very nicely into how I have come to understand how our Lord works in the world and our business functions.

These kind of examples and life stories are exciting and amazing. They must, however, be taken in context and not applied across the board otherwise people are tempted to through out the pursuit of Godly wisdom and understanding. I know this is preaching to the choir but God wants us to use the gifts He has given us and work to refine them. I've heard many stories of foolish behavior blamed on \"faith.\"

I had a similar experience. I had been layed off and out of work for 6 months. It was the 27th of the month and needed to make a mortgage payment. I knew I needed to trust God but was conflicted because I knew He didn't want me to write a bad check but if I trusted Him, then I should do it anyway. I got a phone call from a friend I'd not heard from in nearly a year saying he'd deposited $2,000 to my acct and that he'd been urged by God to do this for several days and finally just went to the bank to care of it. I should not have been amazed but I was and thankful to God for being ever faithful in everything, including financial provision.

I believe you! That kind of thing happens to me all the time. I pray with great expectation and God has never let me down!

Craig... You are indeed preaching to the choir but the choir needs the reminding. Thanks for sharing! Lynn... What a great story too! Appreciate you posting on the site! Blessings to all.

Thank you for this great story. It was a good reminder for me. We need that kind of provision from the Lord this week.

This was certainly a timely message. I don't always read this. It is on the Christian Business News. Today, I did. There are a number of pressing needs we have but I know that it is God who supplies all me needs. This was a great word for faith in the situation. He is good all the time and fully trustworthy.

I've heard many similar stories. I've had numerous experiences that were obviously God's provision. We've got to be careful though. We can't look to God as an ATM. His provision is not always in the form we expect or desire, but it is always best. I believe He has a tailored plan for each of us to grow us and prepare us for what's ahead. Part of that redemptive process is the occasional NO from the One who knows best. It isn't alway a matter of how strong one's faith is. It IS ALWAYS a matter of God's sovereign will.

There were two farmers, neighbors, both praying for rain for their crops - for their livihood. After praying, one farmer waited for the rain; the other famer went to his field and started preparing for rain. Am I waiting or am I preparing for rain? How do I discern between the Spirit's prompting and my wishfull thinking?

this is what I would call provision out of the fish's mouth from the eg in the bible where Jesus asked his disiciple to get money for Him and the disciple. God loves adventure ! question is are you game? Dare to trust him enough ! cheers!
