Do You Have The Skills To Handle K.A.S.H.?

On Day 3 of creation, God gathered together the seas, in the process forming dry land. We have talked about the significance of land and how that speaks to entering into “work”. Now as we continue our study of the seas, we continue our discovery of the four elements revealed through Scripture by its reference to the seas that you need to invest in your business. Look at this…

“When He gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass His command:” (Pr 8:29) “Or who shut up the sea with doors…And prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors?” (Job 38) What do you see? I see boundaries. God gave the sea boundaries. God gives us boundaries and those boundaries are largely determined by how He fashioned us. I was not designed to play defensive end on a pro football team, nor was I gifted to be a recording star. God built me with certain things that help define my boundaries.

Understanding how you are wired or designed by God will reveal a lot about your boundaries. I believe that within those boundaries there are great expanses of territory for us to take and most of us settle for mediocrity. Not only are our boundaries determined by how God wired us, but they are further defined by how we’ve developed the gifts He has given us. They are defined by our SKILLS. (The “S” in K.A.S.H.)

I have been thinking about boundaries in the past week in the sense of a home based business and \"office hours.\" It is interesting that you use the example of God placing the waters in boundaries. I was using the same analogy in my thinking about this. Our financial situation is one of a debt load. The tendency is to work longer and harder to try to climb out. In a home based business, it is very easy when in a debt situation to let the office hours stretch beyond boundaries. I am thinking that God has not asked us to work 24/7 but to have boundaries to be able to attend to other areas of life that need some focus also. I feel like God can bless the breadwinner with finances to meet his needs within those boundaries and allow him to fulfill the other roles God has given him as well without working a lot longer and harder. I see it as tithing time just as you would tithe money. I understand the pressure a breadwinner would feel in trying to reduce debt but wondering if there isn't a fine line between workaholic and faith that God can provide within boundaries as well. Can you please speak to the aspect of boundaries in a business in terms of time as well as skills?
Preferring anonymity due to subject of debt, please. If not possible, don't publish blog. Thanks! at 12:11pm EDT - October 2, 2006
I appreciate you teaching on boundaries in the sense that everybody wants to be at places at the same time.It also been made known that everybody has his or her part in life and i life to play, for that is what God has given to every man,Thats the dignity in a man that no one else has ever had nor any will have but one.

Dear Anonymous; Part of trusting God in faith is the setting of boundaries. I could easily work 16 hours a day six or seven days a week for a long time if I wanted to. But I don't. That's because my other relationships would suffer and my life would be out of balance. So I set boundaries around my time and rarely work during evenings or on weekends. There are exceptions but the rule is that I have boundaries for my time and I am not accessible to clients or work responsibilities during family or personal time. I trust that God will make my work time profitable as I submit it to Him. Many times I have seen God do more for me in an hour than a month of hard work could accomplish. The question has to do with whether you are depending on your natural skill and ability alone or are you working in tandem with God, trusting Him to bring about the result He desires. Ours is to plant and water but it is God who gives the increase (1 Cor 3:7) Stay tuned for future emails for more discussion on this.
