Knowing God's Will Through Scripture

By

August 10, 2006

Want to know God’s will on a matter? First of all, search the Scriptures. His testimonies are your counselors (Psalm 119:24).  His word will lead you, keep you and talk with you (Proverbs 6:22). Most of what we need to know when making a decision can be found in Scripture. When I want to know how to negotiate, I study Paul’s letter to Philemon to negotiate the safe return of Onesimus. (See our Negotiating Secrets of Paul) When I want to know how to make a powerful presentation, I study Peter’s presentation to several thousand skeptics in Acts 2 where 3,000 converted at the end of his presentation.
I may not find a passage in the Bible entitled "How to Uncover Opportunity," but I can read the 7 questions Moses wanted answered before going into the land of opportunity and glean tremendous insight. In fact, that passage in Numbers 13 has helped my clients bring millions of dollars of revenue into their companies. I find God’s Word to be my number one resource for learning about life and business. It is more than a moral or spiritual guide. It is a handbook for living.
A woman once told my wife that God had brought her the man of her dreams. He was handsome, charming, financially set, a really great catch. In fact, he only had one drawback and that was the fact that he was married to another woman. My wife asked her if she was familiar with the passage, "Thou shall not commit adultery". That ended that conversation and ultimately the affair came to an end. Most of what we need to know for making decisions is in plain sight in Scripture, requiring no difficult interpretation or imaginative application. But for those instances that are not black and white, join us next week.

Thanks for today's lesson. Your information is very informative and I am about to search the book of Exodus for a big decision I have to make because i know it is in that book the answer will come

Wow, your wife was great example of using God's Word to cut through a lot of possible clutter, getting to the heart of the matter and motivating action from another person. May we all use God's Word to divide truth.

Two summers ago, after a particularly inspirational sermon by one of our pastors, I embarked on a journey to read all the way through the Bible ... every last word! Well, I made it through and Wow! was it worth it! You really can't participate in a relationship until you take time to learn more about your partner, and the Bible is certainly the way to learn about God! My trek through the Bible really opened my eyes to the way God really thinks about things ... which in many cases proved to be very different than the way I thought He thought about things. Best to get it straight from the source!

I have been in sales for my entire working career with moderate success, never really achieving the maximum that I could have achieved in my field. It never crossed my mind to use the bible as a guide line. I can%u2019t imagine how much more successful I might have been if I had only done this. I suppose it is no accident that I was led here to this website so I can continue to grow and walk more fully in his blessings. God is preparing me for so much more. Recently I have been praying for God to show me whether or not I should take advantage of a job offer that was made to me. Thank you for reminding me what it is all about. I will take his word and find my answers and will use the bible to guide me into a successful future whether I stay at my current position on move on to this new one that I have been offered. I know the flood gates are ready to open and pour out everything that I am suppose to receive. I look forward everyday to your email and the perspective you bring to me in my work day.

You have changed your format, not to impressed. I know you sell products and I have bought your book but it was nice to have a motivational news letter without links in it to sell you something, especially things out of the Bible! I will probably take my name off the list if it does not go back to the old format. Thank you David Benson

I would encourage all to read Moses questioning strategy.

Michael, It's as if God allowed you to listen to our (His and my) recent conversations. Sales had been down and meeting the budgets looked quite bleak. Thanks for such a timely message. I love the new format: it's sleek appearance. Also, the links make it easier to order.

Michael; Your posts have been a source of inspiration to me over the past year. God's business which he's blessed me to run is in a deep financial hole right now. And God is being silent on what directions we should take. Does anyone know a scripture that I can read to help with decisions of this magnitude... In HIS Service; Herb

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. We will from time to time put links to other resources that we believe will be of value and worth to you. They are not links to the latest credit card offer, but rather to significant resources \"especially things out of the Bible\" found to be of great value to me personally and to many others. There is no effort to \"sell you something\" but rather an invitation to explore resources to help you succeed in life. It has been my experience that seekers of truth have always appreciated a subtle pointer in the direction of helpful information. God bless you all.

Gail, I am a Selling Among Wolves Group leader and I advise you to either get into a group in your area, or if you do not have a group in your area, get some of Michael's materials. One of the members of my group, utilizing Michael's teaching and God's word, became the number one salesperson in his company! This now gives him the opportunity to share with others just how he came to be so successful! Be encouraged! God is real, His word is real, and if His word is real for our personal lives, than you know that it is real for our business lives as well! A quick word on God's will. God's word teaches us to be faithful in little to be faithful in much. God has given us specific things that we are to do while we are here. For example, he tells husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Essentially, that is his will. When we think of God's will, sometimes we forget to do what He has told us to do in His word. However, I am sure that if we are faithful in the little things that He wants us to do, he will let us know what he wants us to do with the big things!
