Are you on Track?

age, be not conformed, logos, rhema, Word of God

“And be not conformed to this world (aion): but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

There are two Greek words for “world”. One is “cosmos” which refers to the physical world and the other is “aion” which is a time concept that is rightly translated as “age” and where we get our word “eons”, as in “eons ago”

So instead of conforming ourselves to the current, “age” which by definition is always changing, may I suggest we conform ourselves to that eternal unchanging age which is to come, but has always been. The writer of Hebrews 6:5 informs us that we can in fact “taste of the good word of God and the powers of the age to come”.

How does one do that?

Well Romans 12:2 tells us to renew our mind and that requires new information. May I suggest as the writer of Hebrews did, that we should learn to taste of the good word of God. We see that the Greek for “word” is once again, “rhema”, which is the spoken, God breathed word. Have you tasted that today? Or have you only learned to read the written word? The latter is essential, but the former is vital. You need both.

The written word looks back and instructs. The spoken word looks ahead and guides. Of course you can be guided into the future by learning from the past (those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it), but if you were being sent to the battlefield… Would you rather be guided by an extremely well written war manual several hundred pages thick, or have the God of the universe clearly speaking a word to you in the heat of the battle, directing your course?

If it were me, I would want both.

I would study the manual so as to know how God speaks, recognize His voice and so I could learn His ways. Then I would listen for His voice, easily recognizable because of my familiarity with His previously recorded words.

Think of God’s written word (logos) as the steel tracks of a railway. Think of the spoken word (rhema) as the powerful locomotive moving down the track. You can choose to walk miles on end down the track or you can catch and ride the power of the locomotive.

The locomotive is the spoken, living, God breathed, present and proceeding word from the mouth of God to the ears of your heart. It ALWAYS rides on the steel rails. The locomotive will never lead you in a way contrary to the steel rails of God’s immutable, eternally settled Word.

When you have tasted the “good word (rhema) of God”, (heard Him speak to you directly) and tasted of the powers (literally: explosive, miracle working, physically observable power) of the age to come, you will want more of that. And when you feast on that, the GMO altered word being served up with toxins on a silver plate to every generation, will appear tawdry at best and utterly reprehensible at worst.

So here’s the takeaway…

Instead of trying to change your behavior or that of anyone else’s from the outside in, start feeding on the good word (rhema) of God that rides on the written word (logos) of God and begin to follow that. If you receive and act on that, you will without fail begin to experience the powers of the age to come and your desire for the tainted pleasures of this age will be forever ruined.

Let’s roll!

  • Michael, you’re right., we need both. To make a right judgement,t he Torah requires two witnesses. We are made out the physical and His breath. We have the physical written Word and His Spirit.

As I read your post this morning I heard that sometimes His Word is bitter. Like in Passover, we eat bitter herbs, we roast lambs or goats with everything in it, and we must eat it in haste. Sadly, there is nothing left over in the morning for anyone else. After Passover we have a journey with other lessons about what we want to eat and what He provides.

You asked about the time the other day and you went to Israel recently. Could it be time for the second exodus? Eating His Word includes that portion in Isaiah. Irrespective of the answer, eating His Word is ultimately for His glory and the good of those who love Him.

    • Hi Louis… I have wondered about what the second Exodus will look like and when it will take place. I believe it must be much more than mere immigration like has occurred the last nearly 70 years. After all, it’s going to be such a big thing that people will forget about the first one. I believe we are closer to that day than we know. Thanks for posting!

  • I believe the the second Exodus is now occurring as the 12 Tribes 2(Judah)+ 10 (Ephraim) find their Identity, Security and Belonging-ness in Yahweh and Yeshua therefore turning back to Yahweh the God of our Hebraic Roots Faith ultimately becoming the One Stick of Wood in His Hand as prophesied in Ezekiel 37:15-24.
Judah( Jews=Tribe of Judah and Benjamin) will no longer vex Ephraim (10 lost tribes scattered all over the World). Ephraim will bless Judah. Meaning Judah brings the knowledge of the Feast of the LORD, traditions and Torah commandments kept while Ephraim brings the Spirit of Yeshua the Christ.
“People get ready there’s a Train a comin’..you don’t need no ticket… just get on board”
    (Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck)
    Praise the Lord!

    • A lot of folks are not schooled on the migration of the 12 tribes through Asia, Europe and beyond. Thanks for posting!

  • Powerful and very poignant analogy with the train and tracks. Certainly BOTH are much needed but riding in the train of the supernatural, precise and immediate instructions will accelerate the progress. Great job, Michael, as always.
Rich blessings to you and all you do, my friend….
